The holidays are the busiest time of year here at The Animal League. More pets find homes during November and December than at any other time. Awareness events can also lead to a rise in applications. This is wonderful news for our pets, but it also comes with its own, unique challenges.
Throughout the year, our pets, especially our cutest and most popular puppies, can have 20, 30, even 50+ applications each. This means that some people will miss out on their first choice of pet. While we understand this can be disappointing, we believe that ALL our pets deserve homes, and we always offer to find a new match when this happens.
This leads to the question, “The Pet I Wanted Got Adopted… Now What?!”
- Please understand that this was not a personal attack or insult! Our Adoption Team meticulously combs through each and every application, and finds the best match for each pet. Sometimes, this match changes their mind. Sometimes they don’t return our calls. When this happens, we move on to the NEXT best match, rather than keeping a pet in limbo waiting for people to return our calls and emails.
- Allow our Team to match you with another pet. ALL of our pets deserve homes, not just the cute puppies! Some of our pets have been with us for months because they are a little plain, a little shy, or a little older, but they are just as deserving of a home. There’s no better time than now to open your home and heart up to pets who have been passed over time and time again. Many of these same pets have reduced or waived adoption fees too.
