Hi Friends! My name is Duke!
I was found roaming the streets by a Good Samaritan who noticed that I was bumping into things. I was taken to the local shelter and, due to the condition of my eyes, I was put on the euthanasia list or adoptable only to a rescue. That’s when my friends at The Animal League saw me and knew they could help me! They rushed to claim me and I was brought to their facility.
They took me to a top-notch eye doctor just for doggies and kitties. Did you know they had such thing? Dr. Priehs determined that I have glaucoma and have had it for some time. My eyes were bulging so badly and my glaucoma so severe, that I have lost all sight and do not even see shadows. I could not even close my eyelids. He said I likely had a really bad headache from the pressure in my eyes too. I was given eye drops that were so soothing and helped to reduce some of the pressure, and while they look and feel some better, I still cannot see and never will. But not to worry, my other senses have become more powerful and I have adapted like a champ.
While I could have continued on the drops for the rest of my life, the Dr. recommended that they remove my eyes so that I would be much more comfortable and my all day/every day headache would be gone. I had a bilateral enucleation on April 30, and boy do I feel better! I will have some swelling around my eyes for a few more days, but my doctor said I did great and there were no complications. I no longer have a terrible headache and am being such a good patient. My foster family is taking fabulous care of me and I am taking my medications like a champ. I am navigating around her home just fine and am doing so well!
I am soooo grateful to everyone who donated to my surgery or who sent thoughts, prayers, and good vibes. I cannot THANK YOU all enough for your generosity and caring, you are all simply the bestest. I wuv you all!
I will be available for adoption in the coming weeks. I am quite a handsome fella and I have lots and lots of love to give. I am such a good boy and would love a family to call my very own. Keep watching this website or Facebook for my listing, and I hope you PICK ME!
With love and smooches,
Duke

P.S. I would be so grateful if you were able to continue to help me and my other furry friends here at The Animal League. Every little bit counts, and goes a long way.
