Pet Adoption Hold Deposit Agreement

Thank you for considering a shelter pet.

You’ve searched our available pets and have fallen in love with an adorable dog or kitty? Your next step in the process is to complete an adoption application if you haven’t yet.

Sometimes unavoidable circumstances prevent a potential adopter from meeting or taking home their favorite pet at our Adoption Center right away.

When this happens, we ask the potential adopter to pay a hold deposit on their favorite pet.

If you’ve been directed to this page by a representative of The Animal League, it is because we are asking you to complete a Pet Adoption Hold Deposit Agreement, and complete the hold deposit payment, as your next step in the adoption process. Please complete the below Agreement then complete the deposit.

Pet Adoption Hold Deposit Conditions

Please check all of the boxes below indicating that you have read the following conditions of the Pet Adoption Hold Deposit Agreement.

All hold deposits are non‐refundable and non‐transferrable.

A deposit holds the pet from being adopted by another applicant during the period specified.

If you complete the adoption for this pet, we will apply the deposit toward the adoption fee.

If you do not complete the adoption for this pet, you agree to forfeit the deposit as a donation to The Animal League. If extraordinary circumstances arise, the Director will have the discretion to approve or deny a refund.

You may place only one hold deposit on a pet at one time.

The Animal League will only hold a specific pet one time per person or family.

You may not transfer your hold deposit to another pet or person.

A hold deposit holds a specific pet for a meet and greet. However, a hold deposit does not guarantee adoption for that specific pet.

You must submit an adoption application and The Animal League must approve it, generally, before a hold can be placed.

Pet Adoption Hold Deposit Conditions for Dogs

For prospective adopters wishing to place dogs on hold, please check all of the additional boxes below indicating that you have read the dog-specific conditions of the Pet Adoption Hold Deposit Agreement.

You must bring current dogs that you have in your home to the Adoption Center for a meet and greet with the shelter dog of interest.

If shelter staff feels uncomfortable placing the pet in your home, then you may apply the hold deposit at that time to another available pet. However, if The Animal League does not feel there is a good match for your dog(s), then we will refund the deposit.

If circumstances are not conducive to a meet and greet (such as when pets live in another state and can’t travel) and the meet and greet after adoption does not go well, you understand that you are obligated to return the pet to The Animal League as required by the adoption contract.

You are responsible for the safe handling of the return of the dog, and all arrangements and expenses for the return of the dog are your responsibility should it be necessary to return the dog to The Animal League.
