The Animal League's Salsa and Fandango are best friends

Who is your BFF? Read Their Story.

Friendship isn’t about who you’ve known the longest, it’s about who walked into your life and said, “I’m here for you.”

Meet our latest Have-A-Heart and Sunshine recipients, Fandango and Salsa! These two have forged a unique and beautiful friendship in the face of adversity. Both Fandango and Salsa came to us from a rural open-admission shelter where they faced euthanasia if no one came to rescue them.

Salsa and Fandango first met during transport to The Animal League, and have been inseparable ever since. Salsa follows Fandango everywhere! If Salsa gets too far behind, Fandango stops and waits for her. Sometimes, he even trots back and walks with her to their destination. Besides running and playing together, these two even sleep cuddled next to each other.

We don’t know all of what Salsa and Fandango had to endure before coming to us, but perhaps they see a little bit of themselves in each other, as, at first glance, they aren’t as flashy as some other pets. But we believe they deserve homes just as much!

Fandango is a handsome, laid back Redtick Coonhound Blend who loves following his nose. Fandango has deadly heartworm disease, and will be receiving lifesaving treatment within the next few weeks. Beside heartworm disease, Fandango suffered an eye injury prior to him arriving at our shelter, which has since healed and doesn’t seem to bother him, though he does look a little different.

Fandango’s silly eye didn’t seem to bother Salsa either, as she also looks a little different! Salsa is a spunky, 3 month old Labrador Blend. She loves to race around with squeaky toys! She is your typical Labrador, except for her skin condition. Salsa is currently recovering from a severe case of Demodex. Demodex is a non-contagious form of mange that causes dogs to lose their fur. Thanks to great care from our Animal Care Team, Salsa’s coat is beginning to come back!

Salsa and Fandango are a reminder to us of why we do what we do! For the first time in their lives, these two feel safe, happy, and have friends (human and canine!) who love them. Their uncanny friendship has shown us that love can overcome any hardship. It inspires us to keep on rescuing!
