Fudge and her two siblings are typical happy-go-lucky 12 week old lab puppies.
Unfortunately, someone dumped these babies on the side of a busy road.
Before a driver could stop in time, Fudge was hit by a vehicle and sustained severe injuries. Luckily, the puppies were collected by the citizen and brought to a nearby shelter.
Upon arriving at The Animal League, Fudge was taken for immediate veterinary assessment beginning with x-rays. It was determined that Fudge had a dislocated hip and fractured tibia. She has such a sweet disposition for a puppy in pain!
Fudge would need surgery to repair her injuries.
On January 7th, Fudge underwent a femoral head osteotomy or FHO, and had the head and neck of the femur surgically removed. In simpler terms, it is the removal of the “ball” part of the ball-and-socket that makes up the hip joint. Her tibia fracture had already healed and was better left alone since surgery would just make it worse.
Fudge’s surgery and care will cost at least $1,000. Read more about Fudge here.
